Creating voter awareness through corporate power: You Vote, You Decide is a call to action campaign, provoking urban, educated India to come out and vote.

Created in response to the fervour and apathy around the 2014 general elections in India, we conceived, designed and executed this bold and provocative campaign. By transforming the city’s billboards with simple yet powerful messages, our attempt was to prod people to take notice, to think and to come out and vote. In 2014 it was estimated that there were around 100 million first time voters in India.

Design has immense power to impact change. As communication designers we promote, sell, package and influence. This campaign uses design for a larger, social impact – to drive home a fundamental idea, that each one of us is empowered to vote and decide the future of India. We should celebrate and exercise this right.

The challenge was getting billboards in the city, spread strategically and in enough numbers for the campaign to be effective. A majority of billboards are leased by real-estate developers. We therefore proposed the campaign to the developer community as an industry-wide effort for corporate social responsibility.

The billboards are designed to provoke and promote. Each poses a question concerning the future of India. However, each question draws on the core values of the sponsor, thus reinforcing the brand. The strength of the campaign lies in its uniformity. The billboards are simple, in-your face and vibrant. The templated approach allowed us to readily scale up the campaign as it gathered momentum. Over a period of 2 weeks we transformed 120 billboards with advertising space worth app. 1.4 crores.
